General language learning ❔
Romance languages are a group of languages that evolved from Latin and are mainly spoken in Europe and America. I can name some of them here: French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan, Romania, and the list goes on. To know more, read this post.
The closest language to Latin is probably Italian. Italian is a Romance language, which means that it evolved from Vulgar Latin, the colloquial form of Latin spoken by the common people in the Roman Empire. Italian has many similarities to Latin in terms of grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
Additionally, because Italy was the center of the Roman Empire, Latin had a significant influence on the development of the Italian language. Other Romance languages such as Spanish, French, and Portuguese also have similarities to Latin, but Italian is considered to be the closest.
Compared to some other languages, Romance languages may be easier for English speakers to learn because they share many linguistic, cultural, and historical similarities with English. In addition, Romance languages have a similar grammatical structure to English, and they use the Latin alphabet.
The language you choose to learn should reflect your interests and goals. Consider the cultures you are interested in, the countries you would like to visit, and the job opportunities that may be available if you are fluent in a particular language. Also, consider your own learning style and the amount of time you are willing to dedicate to learning a language.
Yes, we can. But I don’t really highly recommended, because Romance languages have many similar features in terms of grammars and vocabulary. It’s easy to understand among these languages, but in speaking, you will get confused, people often called them Portugnol, Spanglish, etc
To be honest, I don’t learn languages by any apps, but you really want to learn languages by apps, I recommend you Seedlang (to learn French, Spanish and especially German). To learn English, one of the best apps to improve your pronunciation is Elsa. And for Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc..) which I greatly appreciate, I see Ling app is the best choice.
I have a Polyglot routine, every day I listen to many podcasts, music, watch videos or movies in different languages, the goal is to immerse myself in these cultures and keep my brain learning.
I don’t know, I’m not a native speaker for any Romance languages, I think my French level is best compare to the rest. But if you want to practice some languages, or you want to learn French for example from zero, I definitely can help you.
For now, I stop at 8 languages and I realize that it is hard to maintain all of them. But in the future, I want to learn new languages, I still don’t know what they are, but it won’t be a Romance language anymore.
I am a traditional guy, I like to take notes in my notebook, I have different notebooks for different languages, inside, I write new vocabulary with examples, and also grammar basics for each language too, in case I forget them.
The amount of time it takes to learn French can vary depending on several factors, including your mother tongue, your language learning experience, your level of commitment and dedication to learning, and your reasons for learning French.
If you already speak a Romance language like Spanish or Italian, you may find it easier to learn French as there are many similarities between these languages. In this case, it may take you less time to learn French than someone who speaks a non-Romance language.
On the other hand, if you are a beginner and have no prior experience with Romance languages, it may take you more time to learn French. According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), it takes about 600-750 hours of study to reach a B2 level in French. This means that if you study for 2-3 hours per day, it could take you around a year to reach a B2 level.
No, Arabic is not a Romance language.
Arabic, on the other hand, is a Semitic language that originated in the Arabian Peninsula. It is the fifth most widely spoken language in the world and is the official language in 26 countries, mostly in the Middle East and North Africa.
While Arabic is not a Romance language, it does share some similarities with Romance languages in terms of grammar and vocabulary borrowed from other languages over time.
Spanish is most closely related to Portuguese and Italian, but it also shares many similarities with other Romance languages, including French and Catalan.
